Lesson #17 – How to Ask for Help in English
Hello everyone, and welcome back to another lesson in the Simple Way to Learn English. Today is Lesson 17, and in this lesson, we are going to talk about a very useful skill — how to ask for help in English. This is something you need in daily life, at work, at school, or even when traveling. So let’s learn some simple and natural ways to ask for help politely. First, remember that English speakers often use soft, polite phrases when they want to ask someone to do something. Being polite helps you sound friendly and confident. One of the easiest ways to ask for help is to say: “Can you help me, please?” This is short, simple, and perfect for almost any situation. Another polite way is: “Could you please help me?” This one is a little more formal, and it sounds very respectful. Now, sometimes you want to be specific about the help you need. For example: “Can you help me with this form?” “Can you help me find this address?” “Could you help me understand this word?” Just add the thing you need help with at the end. What if you are in a shop or office? You can say: “Excuse me, I need some help, please.” This is very polite and gets attention without sounding rude. You can also ask for help in a softer way by saying: “I’m having a little trouble with this.” “I don’t understand this part.” “Is there anyone who can help me?” These phrases show your problem and invite the other person to help you. And here is a very polite way when you need help from someone busy: “Sorry to bother you, but could you please help me?” This shows you respect their time, which makes them more willing to help. Finally, when someone helps you, always say: “Thank you so much.” Or “I really appreciate your help.” This makes your English sound warm and polite. So today we learned many new expressions for asking for help. Try using them in your daily conversations. The more you practice, the more natural they will feel. That’s all for Lesson 17.
